So Long TiVo, We’ll Miss You

DirecTV prepping new digital video recorder, which spells trouble for TiVo via Engadget

I don’t know how to feel about this… I’ve come to really like TiVo as a service, but if DirecTV can offer the same thing with all the same features. I guess it wouldn’t be a bad thing. Although, I’m sure I’ll have to buy a new DSS receiver. Hey, it at least it gives me a reason to upgrade.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! We kicked off this Thanksgiving for the 2nd year in a row by going downtown to see The State Street Thanksgiving Parade. The only thing different this year was Beth volunteered to march in the parade. She carried a banner for Columbia College Chicago, one of the parades partners, while Me and Matthew watched from the VIP seats. Me and Matthew had really good seats. In fact, you might have even saw us on TV. We were seating right behind the center stage, were all the performances were done. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring the camera, so I missed out on getting a photo of Beth in the parade.

Then later that day, we all stuffed ourselves full of turkey at my Dad’s House and Beth’s Mom’s House.

Branson, MO

Branson, MO 2004 (Branson Scenic Railway) 23

We just got home the other day from our trip to Branson, MO. We had a pretty good time. Here’s the short list of some of the things we did in Branson and on the way to and from. On the way down there we stopped at The Meramec Caverns. We spent one day at Silver Dollar City. We went to a Dinner and a Show at Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede. We took a few trips, such as Ride the Ducks and Branson Scenic Railway. We also went to a few shows like The Baldknobbers Jamboree to name one. On the way back, we made a detour and stopped at Exotic Animal Paradise, a drive-thru wildlife park.

This is a photo of Me & Matthew riding The Branson Scenic Railway. Click HERE to view and/or download more photos.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town

The USB-powered Santa via Engadget
Just in time for the holidays, a USB-powered, drum playin’ Santa Claus that plays Jingle Bells. My only question is whether it’s USB 2.0 compliant.

Now That’s What I Call a TV

First, I though about replacing the family room TV with a nice big screen DLP or maybe even a plasma, but now I’m reconsidering after finding out that The University of Iowa is selling their Sony Jumbotron on eBay.

Can You Hear Me Now?

Village approves cellular contract via Star Newspapper

My Dad emailed me this from the Star Newspapper.

The Richton Park Village Board Monday approved a contract with U.S. Cellular Wireless for rental of space on the water tower located on Latonia Street

Finally, he can quit complaning about his mobile phone signal when he’s at home. The Cellular Tower is now in his backyard.

Children of All Ages!

As it has become tradition, we went to see The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus at Allstate Arena for Beth’s Birthday the other night. I give her tickets to the circus every year as a present for her birthday. She enjoys it and says that she really wants to go every year. Hey, at least she easy to shop for.

Matthew came to the circus with us, he came with us last year too, but this was the first year that Matthew could somewhat appreciate it. We arrived early so that we could go down by the rings and see the clowns and elephants up close before the show. It was worth it to see the look on his face. He seemed to really enjoy the elephants, lions and traipse artists the most.

Yuck!!!

As if a turkey and gravy-flavored soda wasn’t bad enough (which sold out last year in three hour), Jones Soda will be indtorducing The Jones Holiday Pack this season, which consists of four new flavors - green beans and casserole, mashed potatoes, fruitcake and cranberry. It’s a complete holiday meal replacement, even equipped with a straw, and a toothpick of all things. Check it out for yourself if you don’t believe me. There is just so many things wrong with this. I don’t know where to start. I hope this is not the start of an alarming trend of Holiday Sodas since Pepsi has already introduced it’s Holiday Spice.

Buy Me a PC, or I’ll Sue!

If I knew about this when I was younger, I could have saved myself an entire summer of mowing lawns.

The Badlandz

I went to play paintball yesterday at The Badlandz in Crete with Dean and some of his friends. The weather turned out really nice, it was sunny and in the mid 50’s. I’d say everyone had a good time. Instead of a private game this time, we all moved in and out of open games, which seemed to work out well. By playing in the open games we didn’t slow down the group for anyone who wanted to rest or grab something to eat. We still managed to play about 11 games. Overall, I’d rank the field an 8. The place seemed reasonably priced, there was a number of fields to choose from (although, by the end of the day, I was tired of playing The Fort) and the referees seemed professional and keep the games organized and moving. I’d definitly go back.

This was only the second time I had gotten a chance to really play with my marker since I bought it, and so far, I’m still really happy with it. Although, there are some definite upgrades that I want to do to it. I hope some of the improvements will increase performance, accuracy and distance. So, for those of you reading this, remember Christmas is just around the corner.
