Update: Picasa 2

Take this with a grain of salt. Picasa 2 is free, which is great… but I find it’s not very intuitive in organizing photos. For instance, I have a folder full of photos, which range from May 2002 to now. But after Picasa is done analyzing the folder, on the lefthand side it just says “May 2002.” What happen to June 2002, July 2002, All of 2003, etc.? It just lumps hundreds of photos into one big mess, even though it has the capability of reading the EXIF “date picture taken” dates from the JPEG files.

Which is another gripe of mine, Picasa doesn’t have an option to change the date the picture was taken, which is useful when you when you have the wrong date set on the camera.

In any case, I noticed that if I make folders and put images in them, then it organizes it better, but, I shouldn’t have to go through all of my photos and put them into folders. That’s why I have Picasa in the first place, to help me organize my photos. Now, if there is some way to do this, it isn’t obvious. I looked through all kinds of options and functions and found nothing to let me do this. I think the way Picasa bases the start date of the event is based on the first photo’s EXIF date.

I’ve was reading the Picasa Forums, and there is a discussion of this problem in the “gripes section” in a line called “Picasa useless for anyone using subfolders.” It seems that Picasa was designed assuming that most people are not well organized. However, the way that the software is designed, if you ARE well organized it is not much help as it requires work to reorganize yourself. This is especially true for people who use subfolders and sub-subfolders.

Don’t get me wrong I like Picasa 2. After all, Picasa 2 is vastly improved over the first version. Plus, I like the Collage feature. I’ll most likely keep using it, at least until board or something better come along.

Update: The House

It’s a good thing I checked my program guide at home, I usually have TiVo record Monster House on Monday nights (to much going on Beth’s shows and 24 are on the same night), because when I looked at my upcoming shows to be recorded, Monster House was not listed to record on the 31st. I don’t know if it’s because Monster House is a two hour special, but it was only listed as Discovery Fun House. I would been upset if TiVo missed my show. It’s been a while since a new episode has been on.

The House

I don’t remember the last time a new episode was on, but it finally looks like Monster House will be back with a new episode. Discovery Fun House premieres on Monday, January 31st.

The best of the best return to monsterize a frat house.

They bring back two teams of all-star builders for a two-hour Monster House special event. It must be a pretty BIG build for the show to use two teams.

Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Auto Racing

Ok, Jim at work talked me into joining his Private Group at Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Auto Racing. I think it’s because he doesn’t have any friends. In any case, he says it’s low maintenance and I only have to check in once a week to make changes if I want to. It’s a weekly game that let’s me compete against others in his Private Group. My goal is to earn more points than others by selecting drivers who perform the best in actual races. Each week I pick a team consisting of two A drivers, four B drivers and two C drivers. Of these, I’ll choose a foursome (one A, two B, and one C) for the race. My deadline for picking drivers for the upcoming race is Sunday, Feb 20 at 12:25 pm. Anyone have any suggestions?

Picasa 2

I decided to give Picasa another try after my Dad e-mailed me about Picasa 2. I had tried Picasa awhile back, it was bundled with Hello, but after a few times I found the navigation cumbersome and it eventually time out as it was only a trial program at the time. However, Picasa 2 so far seems vastly improved. Picasa 2 will instantly locate and organize all the photo on your computer. Plus, it offers many features allowing you to edit, share, print and backup your photos. Not too bad for a free download.

Hi-5

Matthew (Hi-5 at Star Plaza Theatre) 001

Yesterday, Matthew went to go see Hi-5 at Star Plaza Theatre. He really enjoyed listening and dancing to the songs. Hi-5 is a live-action, musical show for children. He even seemed surprised when the show started and they actors where real and on stage instead of on TV. Click HERE to view and/or download more photos.

Keychain Plants

I saw this earlier in the week, but I totally forgot about this until my Dad e-mailed me with a new web site to check out. I have to say this would make an excelent addition to my keychain collection.

Matthew at The Museum of Science and Industry

Matthew (Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago) 009

We took Matthew to The Museum of Science and Industry about a week ago for the first time. He really enjoyed the The Idea Factory which is a hands on exhibit for young children, where he played and experiment with all sorts of cool stuff. Some of the other exhibits that we saw were the baby chicks, the Coal Mine, The Great Train Story, and ToyMaker 3000. Matthew even made his own personalized top at ToyMaker 3000. We were able to watch the automation process to see how all the pieces come together. I thought it was pretty cool to see how toys and other product are made, Matthew just got a kick out of how it went down the assembly line. Click HERE to view and/or download more photos.
