I was scanning the radio dial in the car the other day, when it occurred to me that between using kPlaylist at work and listening to my MP3 player, I’ve basically put myself in a musical bubble. With my MP3 player I listen exclusively to the music I have selected and by using kPlaylist I continue to listen to the exact same music I already have at home. My listening habits have become very stale… No new surprises. I no longer come across any songs that I sort of like. It’s all music that I was already interested in enough to buy (or search out). For instance, today while listening to one of those “we play everything stations” I heard The Ketchup Song by Las Ketchup, a song that I kind of enjoy. I don’t know why. Its mixture of English and Spanish, or “Spanglish” and I don’t understand half of it, but it does have a catchy beat.
Any ways, I would never have heard it on my MP3 player, but I enjoyed hearing it on the radio. I guess that’s my point. My music, the music that I usually listen to, takes away the spontaneity of listening to music on the radio. My MP3 player or kPlaylist just feeds me back the same stuff I already know and like. Maybe I need to make it a point of breaking out of my musical bubble every once in awhile to keep things from getting stale.

Looking back, a year ago today. Take a step back in time: August, 26th 2006.
This song was probably responsible for some lost productivity at work yesterday. A few of us had one hell of a time trying to playing “Name That Tune” to a badly hummed rift from the chorus.
Thanks to Mario for infecting us all with his craziness and thanks to Mike for finally coming up with the name of the song and ending the insanity.
When I’m at home, I always think of things I should do at work. Well, most of the time, they are things to do that waste time at work. For instance, I’ll be at home watching TV and I’ll think; hey, tomorrow when I’m at work and bored I’ll google that. Then when I’m at work I forget to. The same it true for when I’m in the car. I’ll be driving to work and I’ll think, I need to do this or that and then when I get home I can’t remember what it was! I hope this isn’t an early onset memory loss.
I’ve said it before… Bacon makes everything better. But after coming across the Bacon Exotic Candy Bar, I might be persuaded to change my mind.
One in four read no books last year via Yahoo! News
WASHINGTON - There it sits on your night stand, that book you’ve meant to read for who knows how long but haven’t yet cracked open. Tonight, as you feel its stare from beneath that teetering pile of magazines, know one thing — you are not alone.
Sadly, I come close to falling into this group. While I will pick up several books throughout the year and continue to either purchase, borrow, or ask for more… I have a bad habit of not finishing them in timely fashion. It usually takes me close to a year to finish one or more books. I guess thats why the quote above rings true for me.
I heard the strangest expression on the news this afternoon regarding a pedestrian that was killed by a Metra train.
The pedestrian’s injuries were not compatible with life.
That phrase just struck me kind of weird.
