Looking back, a year ago today. Take a step back in time: July, 30th, 2007.

The thing is, Bob, it’s not that I’m lazy, it’s that I just don’t care.
I got a meeting with the Bobs in a couple of minutes.
Guess what happen to me today? I was woken up at three o’clock this morning by the dogs. OK, OK… that’s not all that post worthy. But what they were barking at is.
So, half asleep, I stumble down the stairs and flip on the front porch light to see what has the dogs going crazy. Low and behold I have one of Joliet’s finest standing on my porch. He informs me that he just caught two girls going through mine and my neighbor’s cars.
Yes, I left my car unlocked… AGAIN. I know, you would think I would have learned my lesson by now. But, I like to think of it as setting a trap to catch a thief - doing my part to fight crime and all
In any case, I check my car, identify what was stolen (a flashlight and a sun-visor clip - of all the stupid things to steal) and then make small talk with my neighbor at 3am while we waited for the police to fill out a report. But with all sincerity, I would like to thank the Joliet police. It feels good to see my tax dollars at work.
A career built on Legos via Herald News
As the recently crowned model builder, Morey’s task now is to build, repair and teach children about Legos at the 30,000-square-foot Legoland Discovery Center that is set to open Thursday at the Streets of Woodfield.
What a lucky guy. To be able to play Legos all day - That would be my dream job.
While I hadn’t planned on seeing The Dark Knight on it’s opening weekend, I seized the opportunity to cross it off my list of must see movies when my sister asked if I want to go. And boy, Am I sure glad I went to see this movie.
The story was awesome. Just like Batman Begins, this is a darker and grittier Batman movie. The movie takes on many twists and turns, yet they all flow into each other seamlessly. In fact, the story was so well crafted that I didn’t even notice the two and half hour run time. A lot of this is due to fabulous direction. Christopher Nolan pulls out all the stops and pretty much delivers a flawless movie.
Besides having a great story the acting is top notch. Christian Bale of course does a great job playing Batman, just as he did in Batman Begins. But his is not the only noteworthy role; Aaron Eckhart, who plays Harvey Dent, also gives a great performance. He fits into the role of Gotham‘s new District Attorney or “White Knight” very well. However, his performance will most likely be overlooked by many people. After all, Heath Ledger’s performance of the Joker steals the show.
No doubt that there is a lot of hype surrounding Ledger’s performance, being that it was his last. While I’ll agree with most that his performance was excellent, I don’t think it was quite Oscar worthy. The idea that his performance was so disturbing that it would leave everyone with nightmares was, at least in my opinion, very over rated. It’s true that Ledger brings great depth to the role, and we have the opportunity to see the Joker portrayed more as a psychopathic terrorist than the “clown” that we have come to know from past films. But, his performance reflects the tone of the movie. A tone in which Jack Nicholson’s version of the Joker would not have fit. With all that said, just as I thought the decision to cast Christian Bale as Batman was a brilliant… I believe the decision to choose Heath Ledger as the Joker was also brilliant. He makes you laugh, but then turns right around and does something extremely sinister, which will leave you in shock. I don’t know if anybody could have played this role better.
Overall, I loved the film. It possessed an intensity and maturity that I have never experienced from a movie based on superhero characters. I do highly recommend this movie, but do not go to see it expecting a lighthearted movie superhero movie like Iron Man or Spider-Man. There are images and thoughts in this movie that will not settle well with little kids, and in all honesty, I don’t understand why some parents bring young kids to a movie like this (but that’s a topic for a different post.)
This movie deserves an A.
I sure am sleepy.
An education isn’t how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It’s being able to differentiate between what you know and what you don’t.

This is old news, but I happened to stumble across this PHOTO while I was digging through the archives of the Joliet Jackhammers web site.
Matthew won the costume contest on Halloween Night. He must make a convincing pirate because I think this was at least the second costume contest he won as a pirate. Also, the promotions staff invited him to come back for Pirate Night.
